Behind the seams – making our backpacks
In a world where mass production is the norm, finding products that stand out for their craftsmanship and personal touch is a rare delight. We have built our backpacks to do exactly that.
From the rolling out and cutting of the waxed organic cotton, to every seam sewn – each one handmade in Britain and designed to withstand the test of time.
|
We focus on slowing down, celebrating traditional skills, and individuality. Carefully created from start to finish in a humble workshop by Lesley – our master seamstress.
|
Lesley brings our designs to life and has honed her skills with waxed cotton, leather and the various tools of the trade for over 35 years. Her attention to detail is evident in every backpack she creates for us, making each one a true embodiment of British craft(wo)manship.

We only use the finest materials available that would withstand the hardy British weather. From waxed organic cotton made in Dundee to recycled wool padding made in Yorkshire, we source natural and sustainable ingredients that will vintage beautifully over time. Leather free options are also available to be custom made.

When you invest in and carry one of our backpacks, you're not just carrying a bag; you're carrying a piece of artistry and a story of craft. It's personal. The way we think clothing should be.

Making a wooden surfboard
A little while ago, I headed to the rugged north coast of Cornwall to spend a week making my own wooden surfboard...like you do. It'd been on my bucket list to do an Otter Surfboards workshop for...well, since I found out that it existed! I met the wonderful human that is founder James Otter at the Do Lectures back in 2015. We became good pals and all the more so since we upped sticks from Sheffield and moved down to Cornwall in early 2019. There's a few more waves rolling in down here than in the Peak District you see....
Forest living
Ahead of moving house and becoming parents, we were well ready for some downtime. So we escaped to Campwell Woods for a few nights...
Our Time to Mull
It was a spur of the moment thing. We were staying in the van, just making it up as we went along. So, with no expectations, we booked ferry tickets across to the Isle of Mull.Kudhva: 'Hideout'
Kudhva means 'Hideout' in Cornish. Tucked away on the north coast of Cornwall, we couldn't wait to get a taste of the hidden treasure for ourselves.
